‘GREENY’

Here we have an Epiphone Artist Kirk Hammett Signature “Greeny” 1959 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar in Greeny Burst finish. The legendary ‘Greeny’ guitar is arguably one of the most famous guitars to exist. Having passed through the hands of iconic guitarist’s such as Peter Green, Gary Moore, and now Kirk Hammett, this unique Les Paul has a distinct look and tone that can be recognised instantly. Epiphone have done an excellent job of making a replica of this instrument available for the masses to enjoy.

Made in 2024, this guitar consists of a Mahogany body, a Maple top with an AAA Flame Maple Veneer, a one-piece Mahogany neck, and a 22-fret Indian Laurel fingerboard. Other appointments include an Epiphone Tune-o-Matic bridge, a LockTone Stop Bar tailpiece, and Grover Rotomatic tuners with Spade buttons. The pickups installed on this guitar are a Reverse Mounted Gibson USA Greenybucker with Reversed Magnetic Polarity in the neck position, and a Gibson USA Greenybucker in the bridge. These pickups are wired to two volume controls, two tone controls, and a three-way pickup selector. The guitar also features 50s wiring, CTS Potentiometers, and Mallory Capacitors.

The Custom Greeny profile neck feels chunky but is easy to manoeuvre, with help from the Satin finish providing a sense of familiarity to the playing experience. The 12” Indian Laurel fretboard feels smooth under the fingers when playing, and assists with fluid transitions, as well as bending and vibrato techniques. The single cutaway offers great comfort and uninhibited access to the higher register, making lead lines effortless and welcoming to a wide range of styles.

The pair of Gibson USA Greenybucker humbuckers sound thick and full, with a warm low end, a tight and punchy midrange, along with a clear and articulate high end. They are clear and articulate, and respond well to overdriven tones, great for solos or an extra bit of grit. The bridge pickup has beautiful clarity, allowing for shimmering trebles to ring through whilst the middle position is the best of both the neck and bridge pickup, creating smooth and defined voicings. The neck position has rounded creamer tones great for chordal phrasings or quick jazz style lines, offering plenty of room for tonal scaping. The sound that this guitar is most known for is the out-of-phase middle position which is created by the neck pickup’s reversed polarity. When playing in this position, you can feel and hear why the sound it makes is so iconic. This instrument oozes inspiration, and is sure to get your creativity flowing.
